Local rapper arrested after allegedly speeding

There is no question that driving can be more than transportation. After all, we buy cars with larger engines and sports cars because the thrill of going fast can be exciting. And, it is no surprise then that sometimes, our inherent thrill seeking can be noticed by law enforcement, who may, in turn, cite or arrest us for seemingly harmless fun on our shared roadways.  This may have been the case for one local Atlanta-area rapper recently.

Miles McCollum, also known as the rapper, Lil Yachty, was pulled over and arrested near University Avenue on the Downtown Connector recently. According to the Atlanta City Police Department, he was driving his white Ferrari when he was clocked going over 150 mph. The 23-year-old rapper, originally from Mableton, was then pulled over.

He was taken out of the car and arrested on charges of speeding in excess of maximum limits and reckless driving. The rapper was then transported to the Atlanta City Jail. The police did not tow the Ferrari though as a friend was allowed to take it from the scene.

Unfortunately, for this young man, this is not his first brush with the police on this road.  Just a few months ago, Lil Yachty was involved in a crash that likely totaled another red Ferrari. Reportedly, excessive speed and road conditions contributed to that crash, which occurred in nearly the same spot near University Avenue on the Downtown Connector where he was arrested for driving is white Ferrari.

Reasons to challenge traffic violations

Regardless of the specific serious traffic violation Lawrenceville or Atlanta residents face, the consequences can be severe. Depending on the facts and charges, one could lose their license and face stiff fines and even, jail time.

These consequences could potentially devastate one’s life. After all, without a license, how does one get to work? If one cannot work, how would they pay the fines? And, if one is thrown in jail, job prospects only further dry up.

However, a few minutes of fun that did not hurt anyone should not destroy one’s life. This is why it can be so important to work with an attorney immediately after being arrested. An experienced defense attorney can help those charged understand their options and seek the best possible outcome.
